Branimir Karanović, born in 1950 in Belgrade, Serbia, is a distinguished Serbian graphic artist and photographer. He graduated from the Faculty of Applied Arts in Belgrade in 1974 under Professor Božidar Džmerković and earned his master's degree in graphics in 1976 at the Faculty of Fine Arts in Belgrade, mentored by Professor Marko Krsmanović.
He began exhibiting his work in 1974 and has since participated in numerous solo and group exhibitions across Europe and beyond, including cities such as Belgrade, Novi Sad, Zagreb, Ljubljana, Venice, Paris, Prague, Krakow, Edinburgh, Lisbon, New York, Berlin, and Tokyo.
Karanović taught photography at the Academy of Arts in Novi Sad from 1978 to 1997, and from 1996 onward, he served as a professor of photography at the Faculty of Applied Arts in Belgrade. In 2006, he was awarded the title of Professor Emeritus at the University of Arts in Belgrade.
His artistic practice is marked by a unique synthesis of graphic art and photography, exploring the expressive potential of both media. His early work focused on portraiture, particularly of Belgrade artists in their studio environments during the 1970s and 1980s. These portraits are now considered valuable artistic and historical documents.
He has received numerous awards, including First Prize for Graphics at Inter-debi in Krakow (1976), First Prize for Drawing at the Yugoslav Portrait Exhibition in Tuzla (1979), the Golden Needle of ULUS (1981), the Grand Prize of ULUPUDS (2003), and the April Award of the City of Belgrade (2005).
