Collection: Danica Basta

Danica Basta (born 1951 in Belgrade, FNR Yugoslavia) is a prominent Serbian painter and drawing artist. She graduated in 1977 and earned her master’s degree in 1979 under the mentorship of Stojan Ćelić at the Faculty of Fine Arts in Belgrade. A member of ULUS (Association of Fine Artists of Serbia) since 1978, Basta has also worked as a professor at the College of Fine and Applied Arts in Belgrade.

Her artistic career spans over four decades, during which she has held 28 solo exhibitions and participated in over 200 group exhibitions both in Serbia and internationally, including in the USA, China, Russia, Greece, Finland, Austria, and Hungary. Her works are part of collections in major institutions such as the National Museum, Museum of Contemporary Art, Museum of the City of Belgrade, Zepter Museum, and several regional museums across the Balkans.

Basta’s art is characterized by a deep engagement with drawing and painting, often reflecting urban realities and personal experiences. She has received numerous awards, including the Golden Palette at the ULUS Spring Exhibition and recognition at the October Salon and Milena Pavlović Barili Biennale.

She lives and works in Belgrade.
