Collection: Radojka Samardžija

Radojka Samardžija (born 1960 in Kutina, Croatia) was a Serbian visual artist and textile painter who lived and worked in Belgrade. She graduated and worked as an art educator before retiring. Her artistic practice was rooted in batik painting, and she was known for her deep engagement with symbolism, history, and spiritual themes.

Samardžija’s work often explored the intersection of Byzantine aesthetics and modern art, using elongated figures and Christian iconography to create a contemporary visual language. She drew inspiration from ancient cultures such as Vinča and Lepenski Vir, as well as from great masters like Picasso, Klee, and Miró. Her exhibitions, such as Omaž velikanima at Galerija Singidunum, reflected her interest in connecting past and present through visual storytelling.

Her art was characterized by a refined sense of form and color, often conveying emotional and philosophical depth. She passed away in 2020, leaving behind a legacy of thoughtful and spiritually resonant work.
